I do not claim to be an expert at poker math. The math aspect of my game is the absolutely worst part of my game.

I am currently making strides to improve this aspect of my game.  People often think I am good at math because I play professionally. You do not need need to be great at math to win.

I just began reading Essential Poker Math by Alton Hardin.

I am what you call a feel player. I make decisions off my instinct intuition using my unconscious competency, awareness and knowledge. I do think it is important to have a general understanding of the basics. This is the most important math rule if followed will increase your win rate.

When to call raises preflop?

Pre flop rules I would recommend you following regardless if your a new player or not. I see many experienced players make these math errors.

15 20 25 50 Rule. I first heard this concept from Bart Hanson from Crush Live Poker.

15x  when holding a pocket pair do not call a raise to hit a set unless you  and your opponents have at least 15 times the raise amount in your stacks.

The following applies.

20x  suited connectors

25x gap suited connectors

50x suited ax

Post flop rules can get much more complicated.

Check out TheSmartPokerStudy.com Sky has tons of great tools like Poker Flash Cards to help you improve your game.

I will do a follow up on Math concepts after reading and studying more advanced concepts.
